Overview
Many artists from around the world have addressed the subject of veiling. These artists are male and female, Muslims and non-Muslims, and they belong to different generations with different training, background and aesthetic preferences. Their approach to the topic varies greatly and is at times contradictory.
In this section, we show the diversity of approaches taken by artists to the topic of veiling over the last 150 years, and the varied reading they have given to what is considered women’s proper dress in Islam.
This section is divided into three parts: Visual Arts, Music and Films. Each section proposes a selection of artworks and artists who treat the topic of veiling in a given media.
